ENGLISH
Definition
A margin call happens when account equity falls below the margin the broker requires to keep positions open. The trader must add funds or reduce positions; if equity keeps falling to the broker's stop-out level, positions can be closed automatically, often at a loss. Levels and procedures vary by broker and regulator.
Example (hypothetical)
A hypothetical account has 1,000 equity and 500 margin in use (margin level 200%). The broker's margin-call level is 100% and stop-out 50%. If losses cut equity to 500, the margin call triggers; at 250, positions start closing.
