堂島ローソク足 — The Candles of Dojima — The Candles of Dojima
A rookie rice trader on the Dojima floor in 1730 Osaka can't read the prices in his hand until a candlestick — legend credits Homma Munehisa of Sakata — bundles a day's open, high, low and close into one shape. Sung as calm Japanese hip-hop (wa-hop) with English subtitles, the film walks through the single- and multi-candle patterns and the rule that ties them together: 形・場所・確認, shape, location, confirmation.

What the film explains
What is a Japanese candlestick?
ローソク足 (rōsoku-ashi, “candle legs”) plots four prices for a period: 始値 open, 高値 high, 安値 low and 終値 close. The box is the body (実体); the lines past it are the shadows or wicks (ヒゲ). If the close is above the open the candle is hollow/white — 陽線 (yōsen); if the close is below the open it is filled black — 陰線 (insen).
Who invented candlestick charts?
Candlestick charts and the “Sakata rules” are traditionally attributed to Munehisa Homma (本間宗久, 1724–1803), a rice merchant from Sakata. This is legend and attribution, not a proven, documented origin — the film says “legend calls him the father of the candlestick”, not a settled historical fact.
What was the Dojima Rice Exchange?
堂島米会所, in Osaka, was officially licensed by the shogunate in 1730 and is often called the world's first organized futures market. It traded rice and rice coupons (米切手, kome-kitte) rather than the rice itself.
What does 形・場所・確認 (shape, location, confirmation) mean?
The film's teaching rule: a candlestick pattern only matters when it forms at the right place — after a trend, or at a level — and after the next candle confirms it. The stop belongs beyond the wick. A candle is a signal, not a promise.
Are candlestick patterns reliable?
No pattern guarantees an outcome. Patterns describe a probability that still needs the right location and a confirming candle before it means anything, and this film makes no win-rate or performance claims. Educational content, not financial advice.
What are the Sakata five methods (酒田五法)?
Five classical Japanese candlestick formations traditionally linked to the Sakata trading tradition: 三山 sanzan (three mountains), 三川 sansen (three rivers), 三空 sanku (three gaps), 三兵 sanpei (three soldiers) and 三法 sanpō (three methods / rest).
What the film teaches
The film is a memory aid, not the full reference. Every pattern named here — single candles, multi-candle formations and the 酒田五法 Sakata five — is written up with its identification rules, meaning, confirmation and invalidation in the full guide: Japanese candlestick patterns, illustrated (also in ไทย and 日本語).

How it was made
- Song — “堂島ローソク足 — The Candles of Dojima”, made with Suno on Ack Studio's account; Japanese lyrics written for this film.
- Stills — Dali, the studio's “ACK-EURO70” ink style (Juggernaut XL, ComfyUI, studio Windows GPU). Motion — MiniMax H3 image-to-video on the same GPU.
- Diagrams — every candle and pattern shape is drawn by code from exact open/high/low/close values, not generated.
- Edit and subtitles — Kubrick; lyric timing measured with a local speech model.
The Dojima floor and the rookie trader are a story; the Dojima Rice Exchange (1730) is real, and candlestick charts and the Sakata rules are traditionally attributed to Homma Munehisa — tradition and legend, not a documented, proven origin. Patterns shown here are probabilities that need location and confirmation, not promises. Educational content, not financial advice — see Disclosure.
