Definition
Effort versus result is one of Wyckoff's three laws. Volume is treated as effort and price movement as the result; when large volume produces little price progress, or price moves far on small volume, the mismatch is read as a possible change in who is in control.
Example (hypothetical)
Over two hypothetical sessions, volume doubles compared with the previous week, yet price rises only 0.3% in total. A Wyckoff reader notes high effort with little result.
