Definition
Slippage is the difference between the price expected when an order is sent and the price at which it is actually filled. It is most common in fast markets, around scheduled data releases and on market or stop orders, and it can be negative or occasionally positive.
Example (hypothetical)
During a hypothetical data release, a market order is sent when the screen shows 80.00 and fills at 80.25. The slippage is 0.25.
