ความหมาย

เงินเฟ้อคือระดับราคาสินค้าโดยรวมที่สูงขึ้นต่อเนื่อง ทำให้เงินแต่ละหน่วยซื้อของได้น้อยลงเมื่อเวลาผ่านไป มักวัดด้วยดัชนีราคาอย่าง CPI หรือ PCE เป้าหมายระยะยาวของธนาคารกลางสหรัฐคือเงินเฟ้อ 2% ตามดัชนีราคา PCE

Definition

Inflation is a sustained rise in the general price level, which means each unit of money buys less over time. It is usually measured with price indexes such as CPI or PCE; the Federal Reserve's longer-run goal is 2% inflation as measured by the PCE price index.

Example (hypothetical)

With hypothetical inflation of 3% a year, a basket costing 1,000 today would cost about 1,030 next year and about 1,159 after five years (1,000 × 1.03⁵).
